SALT Butter Cookie is a small baking business based in Los Angeles, California. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit saltbuttercookie.com, place an order, or contact us — and what we do with it.
If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@saltbuttercookie.com.
Information you give us
When you fill in a form on this site, we receive what you type into it.
The contact form collects your name, email address, subject and message. The catering enquiry form collects your name, email address, phone number, the serving formats you are interested in, your expected guest count, event date, city and venue, and any dietary requirements or allergy notes you choose to share. The newsletter form collects your email address only.
Form submissions are delivered to our Wix dashboard, where we read them and respond to you.
Order and payment information
Checkout does not happen on this site. When you buy something you are redirected to Wix, which collects the name, email address, phone number, billing address and shipping address needed to take payment and send your order, and passes us what we need to bake and ship it.
We never see or store your full card number. Card details are handled entirely by Wix and its payment processors, and Wix’s own privacy policy governs what happens on the checkout pages.
Cookies
This site sets two kinds of cookies.
To keep your cart:
One cookie called wixVisitorTokens. It is a first-party cookie, it cannot be read by JavaScript in your browser, and it lasts up to one year. Its only job is to remember which shopping cart belongs to your browser, so that your cart is still there when you come back. The site's cart cannot work without it.
To understand how the site is used:
We use Google Analytics, which sets two first-party cookies — '_ga' and one beginning with '_ga_' — both lasting up to two years. They let us count visitors and see which pages and steps people use, so we can tell what is working and what is not. They are how we know, for example, how many people start building a box and how many finish.
We have turned off Google's advertising features. These cookies are not used to build an advertising profile of you, to follow you around other websites, or to target ads. Google Analytics does not store your IP address — it uses it to work out roughly which country and city you are in, then discards it.
If you would rather not be counted, you can block cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. This will not affect your ability to use the site.
Wix may set its own cookies on the checkout pages you are redirected to. Those are governed by Wix's cookie and privacy policies, not this one.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal to the websites you visit. There is currently no agreed industry standard for how websites must respond to these signals.
We do not use your information for cross-site advertising or tracking. Because our analytics are used only to understand activity on our own website, we do not change how the site operates when we receive a Do Not Track signal.
If that ever changes, we will update this section and say plainly what we do.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider records standard web server information when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type.
We also briefly hold your IP address in memory when you submit a form, to stop automated abuse. It is discarded within minutes, is never written to a database, and is not linked to you or to your submission.
How we use your information
We use what we collect to bake and deliver your order, to answer your questions, to prepare quotes for catering enquiries, to send you our newsletter if you asked for it, and to keep the site working and free from spam.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone. We do not use it for profiling or automated decision-making.
Dietary and allergy information
If you tell us about an allergy or dietary requirement in a catering enquiry, we use it only to advise on what we can safely make for your event and to prepare your order. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not share it beyond what is needed to fulfil your request.
Please share only what you are comfortable sharing. Our kitchen is not an allergen-free facility — our Terms of Service explain what we can and cannot guarantee.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the services we need in order to run the business:
Wix, which provides our online store, forms, checkout, and payment services.
Vercel, which hosts this website. UPS, which carries shipped orders and receives the delivery address and contact details for your parcel.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to. We do not sell or rent personal information, and never have.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as we need them for accounting and tax purposes. Enquiries stay in our Wix dashboard until we clear them out, and we review and delete old ones periodically. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time.
Your choices and your rights
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email we send you, or by emailing us.
You can also ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Email hello@saltbuttercookie.com and we will respond as soon as reasonably possible. We will not charge you, or treat you any differently, for asking.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under local privacy law. We will honour any request covered by a law that applies to us, and we are glad to honour reasonable requests even where it does not.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS, so information you send us is encrypted in transit. Card details never reach our systems at all. Form submissions and customer records live in our Wix account, protected by our account credentials. If we become aware of a data breach affecting your information, we will provide notice where required by law.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information — in particular if we add analytics or advertising tools — we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
